Animal hygiene teat disinfection

In the livestock sector, a distinction is made between "preventive" and "specific" surface disinfection. Preventive disinfection means routine disinfection. Specific disinfection describes disinfection procedures and/or processes in the event of outbreaks of disease and thus the disinfection of surfaces to combat special pathogens.

The products listed on the IHO disinfectant list for the animal husbandry sector were tested in accordance with the EN test standards for the veterinary sector which are binding for the respective area of application. For the proof of efficacy "Parasites", in which no EN test standards are yet available, the DVG guideline specific for this area applies.

Products for the application of preventive disinfection on surfaces should at least have proof of efficacy according to EN Phase 2/ Step 1 and 2.

 

A distinction is made between pre- and post-milking for teat disinfection. Pre-milking refers to disinfection before milking, post-milking to disinfection after milking.

Pre-milking uses 3.0g/L BSA as the load substance, post-milking uses 10 g/L milk powder.

Products for teat disinfection must be both bactericidal and yeasticidal.
